Grade Range: Early-2 (#36 Overall) - Early 2 at Guard, Late R2 at tackle
I like traits. Leatherwood has traits. Here are some plays of his traits. Scheme versatile, might like him more in Gap schemes.
I watched his tackle tape first, had some initial biases - he looks so much like a tackle that I was initially close-minded to Guard possibility, considering his general aesthetic, athleticism and hand usage.
But, he could be a serious Guard with improved hand usage OR become a good Tackle if that outside half can become more effective and he can figure out how to defend speed rushes/cross chops better.
Start him at tackle, developmental issues are similar at T/G, but they could also simply go away if you just put him at Guard and give him less space to worry about. In the event that he doesn't stick at Tackle, play him at Guard and be happy.
Leatherwood's redirecting in pass protection actually relates the outside arc and his outside arm usage. Many tackles have problems with oversetting, but Leatherwood's is more relates to minor undersetting tendencies, and other reasons relating to why he falls off of blocks in both phases (he can be temporarily late to mirror the middle part of outside arc reps, which can put him behind and force him to flip hips early). Falling off block tendency related to his (lack of) in-rep adjustments with his body positioning, hand usage, among a few other reasons.
