UEFA put in place the Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations to ensure that the overall financial health of European football club’s does not go into disarray. Leeds United had famously capitulated at the turn of the millennium. Deportivo La Coruna will become another cautionary tale from Spain. German clubs were the envy of Europe but even Borussia Dortmund would require a loan from Bayern Munich to continue operating. Financial Fair Play was introduced to ensure that football clubs do not go into administration and are able to continue operations. A decade after its approval and Manchester City’s recent victory over UEFA in a landmark case, the regulations have had a questionable impact.
